The Story Behind the Mercedes Benz

The Mercedes Benz brand is one of the oldest and most well-known luxury car brands in the world. Let's learn more about the story behind Mercedes Benz.

The Benz Family

Before it became a company, back in 1886, Karl Benz obtained a patent for a three-wheeled Motorwagen powered by petrol with a single 954cc single-piston, four-stroke engine.

Unbeknownst to Karl, his wife, Bertha, took it upon herself to take the 0.9 hp vehicle on a tour through Germany that spanned 120 miles. This trip made her the first person to drive a vehicle of its kind for that great of a distance.

The Merger

As it turned out, according to Wikipedia, Bertha wasn't just the wife of an inventor, she was an inventor in her own right. In 1926, the company was founded as a merger between Karl Benz's company, which produced the first gasoline-powered car, and Gottlieb Daimler's company, which produced the first internal combustion engine. The name “Mercedes Benz” was created by combining the names of the two founders and has become synonymous with quality and prestige ever since.

A History of Innovation

The company has a long history of innovation and has been responsible for many technological advancements in the automotive industry. The development of the first gasoline-powered car and the first diesel engine for passenger cars is one of them. Mercedes Benz parts are just as reputable as the vehicles in which they're installed. Parts dealers brag that they offer genuine Mercedes Benz original parts, and that claim carries a lot of weight for their consumers!

Bragging rights are legitimate, as Mercedes Benz parts are made with precision to detail and from high-grade materials. They are crafted to result in a seamless integration with the vehicle's system and other components. Dealers and customers know that a precise finish and fit are what you get when you use high-quality Mercedes Benz parts.

Known Across Industries

Mercedes Benz has also been involved in motorsports for many years. In fact, both companies that merged to form Mercedes Benz were successfully involved in motorsports prior to the merger. Nowadays, the company has a strong presence in Formula 1 and other racing series such as Grand Prix, GT racing, and Formula E.

Today, Mercedes Benz continues to produce luxury cars as well as commercial vehicles, buses, and coaches. Plus, the company continues producing Mercedes Benz parts that rival their competition.
